We are nearing the end of the 2020-2021 school year and we are excited about the engaging learning and fun events that will fill our last few weeks. As we close out this school year, we are already planning for next year! The Blue Heron personnel committee has been busy the last few weeks screening and interviewing candidates for our vacant positions for next year. We are happy to introduce you to our newest Blue Heron team members, please see below to meet the team!

Meet Mallory Gregory, 3rd Grade My name is Mallory Gregory and I am so excited to be at Blue Heron Elementary next year! I am originally from Louisiana right outside of New Orleans, but attended college in Tennessee. I graduated college in 2019 and am currently in my masters program online. I am about to finish my second year of teaching in Tennessee in third grade. I am incredibly ready to move out west and embrace this new stage of life! I love to be outdoors and fall deeper in love with Colorado every time I visit my family. I have a goldendoodle named Theo who I love to play with any chance I can get. I also love to travel anytime I can! I have been to over 15 countries and want to continue to learn and embrace new cultures through travel. | Meet Elise Strongin, 5th Grade Hello! My name is Elise Strongin and I'm so excited to be joining the Blue Heron community this fall! I was born and raised just outside of Washington, DC, currently live in DC, and will be moving to Denver in July. I can't wait! I attended James Madison University in Virginia and have taught both 4th and 5th grades in Fairfax County Public Schools in Northern Virginia. I love getting outside, hiking, yoga, skiing (I'm still learning, but loving it so far!), cooking, the beach, live music, and spending time with friends and family. I'm really looking forward to getting to know the Blue Heron community and joining you very soon! | Welcome Back Kristin Snowden, 5th GradeHello Blue Heron Families- I am thrilled to return to Blue Heron this fall to teach 5th grade again. My husband and I are Colorado natives who love living in the foothills just outside Denver. We enjoy all things outside like hiking, biking, and finding adventure with our four fabulous rescue dogs! I have taught for twenty years in a few settings, including 4th, 5th, and 6th grade! This spring, I will be receiving my master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction. |

Meet our new Principal Secretary, Irene Keenaghan My name is Irene Keenaghan and I am excited to be joining the staff as the new principal secretary at Blue Heron for the 2021-22 school year. I grew up in New Jersey and moved to Colorado over twenty years ago. I am a mom of two active boys, both who are former Blue Heron Aviators. I have spent a lot of time at Blue Heron volunteering with PTA, assisting with the Original Works fundraisers and stuffing Friday Folders. I have also worked at BHE as a paraprofessional in 4th grade. I have an undergraduate degree from Rutgers University and have attended the University of Colorado at Denver taking classes in the elementary teacher licensure program. While in the program, I was a student teacher in both 1st and 5th grade classes - which was a lot of fun. In my last job of 9 years, I was a business manager for several charter schools in Denver. In my free time I like to spend time with my husband and boys attending various sporting events, hiking, paddleboarding and traveling. I am eager to join the team at Blue Heron and return to working in an elementary school. | Meet Alec Boyd, Health AideI joined Blue Heron Elementary to fulfill my insatiable hunger to help anyone I can however I can, and I love kids so it's a win, win. In my free time, I like to run my podcast, which is all about superheroes. I like to watch movies and take long strolls up and down the driveway, because we don't have a beach. I did theater for 3 years in high school and I can cook a mean cheese burger and chocolate chip cookies. |

CELEBRATING OUR ARTISTS
Here is what we have been up to in the art room. This slide show only shows a few of the things we have been working on. There will be more artists in our May slide show, along with the 5 students who made it into the Jefferson County Elementary District Art Show. Click HERE to see who made it into the slide show.
ART STUDENT WINNERS
An art student winner is someone who shows integrity, owns their learning, are responsible and respectful. Click HERE to see the slide show! The wings were inspired by the artist, Kelsey Montague and the feathers were created by students and staff. You can find Kelsey's wings in downtown Littleton, by the ice cream shop. Her hashtag is #whatliftsyou. Congratulations Blue Heron Students!
